Lorraine Sumpter

For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5

Lorraine is an energetic and engaging speaker with a deep commitment to help her listeners build intimacy with God through a deeper knowledge of His Word. Raised in a home marred by violence and poverty, she struggled for many years with feelings of shame. Shame motivated her to try to be a ‘super-achiever,’ but accomplishments could not heal the pain of her past, or her feelings of being a disappointment to herself and others. It wasn’t until she began to seek intimacy with God through in-depth Bible study that the Lord began to set her free from the bondage and heartache of shame. Lorraine uses a balance of compelling biblical teaching and humor to share what God has done for her through the presence of His Holy Spirit.

Lorraine holds a BS in Psychology, and an AS in nursing. She is married with 2 adult children. Lorraine has used her gift of teaching as a Staff Development Educator for nurses and physicians, teaching advanced cardiac care. She has also taught an international, non-denominational Bible study for several years, currently facilitates two community based Bible studies, and speaks for women’s retreats.

Some of Lorraine’s Topics Include…

Freedom from Shame

Do you feel an underlying sense of unworthiness? A feeling that you don’t measure up to others, and never will? Are you critical of yourself or your family, and overly impressed with others? You may be in bondage to shame. Shame can be rooted in our upbringing or our personal failures. Freedom from Shame is Lorraine’s personal testimony of how the Lord set her free from the shame of a violent, impoverished childhood. Lorraine will show you how God is able to set you free from shame so you can be all He created you to be. (50-60 min.)

The Glory of God Series
(taught individually or together in seminar/retreat format)

The Glory of God ~ Have you ever faced a crisis and wished you had more faith? Perhaps what is really needed is not greater faith, but a greater understanding of God. Perhaps your view of God has been influenced by the world and is no longer a true representation of His glory. Come, catch a fresh glimpse of His glory and have your faith strengthened and grounded in Who He is. (45-50 min.)

The Glory of Jesus ~ When God does not change our painful circumstances we may question His love for us. Lorraine will show you how the cross settles for all time how much Jesus love’s us. Through our time together we will examine how Jesus bore our grief, sorrow and shame, so we don’t have to. Come, behold the beauty of Jesus, who is able to save to the uttermost of our need. (45-50 min.)

Indwelling Glory ~ Our hearts long for intimacy with God, victory over sin, and a place of service in His kingdom… but we are naturally sinful, we lack the power needed to remain fruitful and connected with God. Jesus knew our great need so He promised “I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you” John 14:18. Jesus Himself abides in us through the Holy Spirit. Come and see the wealth of power and glory given to us in the person of the Holy Spirit. (45-50 min.)

The Glory of Worship ~ Are you ever tempted to be less than truthful with God concerning your own shortcomings? Faith in His unchanging love sets us free from self-deception, and allows us to enjoy the reality of His constant presence without anxiety or fear. Come and enjoy the presence of God through genuine worship. (45-50min.)

Knowing the Will of God Series
(taught individually or together in seminar/retreat format)

Loving God ~ Do you ever seek God’s will for a situation you are facing? The foundation for knowing God’s will is to first know God. God desires a relationship with you more than He desires that you do something for Him. God reveals His will in the context of a love relationship. This message encourages the listener to make loving God the priority of her life. (45-50 min.)

Hearing God ~ Adam was created to enjoy face to face communion with God, but his sin caused spiritual death and separation. When we are born again we become spiritually alive and are able to commune with God again through the indwelling person of the Holy Spirit. This session focuses on the ways God speaks to us by His Spirit. Practical illustrations and applications are given to equip the listener to hear and respond to the voice of God. (45-50 min.)

Seeking God ~ We seek God through time spent with Him in prayer, Bible study, worship, and fellowship. The most important resource for knowing the personality and character of God is His Word. Hebrews 4:12 tells us “The word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword.” This session focuses on God’s revelation of Himself through His Word. You will gain practical ways to study and discern God’s will through His word. (45-50 min.)

Talking with God ~ Prayer accomplishes many things. Prayer connects us with the One who made us and loves us, it gives us perspective, it allows God access to our hearts so He can change us, and prayer imparts strength and peace. Phil. 4:6 teaches us to bring every circumstance and issue we have to God in prayer. You will leave this session encouraged to seek God’s will and His peace through prayer. (45-50 min.)

Walking with God ~ Amos 3:3 says “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” To walk with God we must be willing to surrender your will to His will. We cannot fight against Him and walk with Him at the same time. David wrote “I delight to do your will, oh my God…” Psa.40:8. Delighting in God’s will is the surest way to walk in God’s will. We also address the silences of God, and His use of difficult circumstances to bring us to maturity. (45-50 min.)
